Practice Makes Perfect

Many students often ask why teachers assign homework. It is because it is true that practice makes perfect. They need the practice problems, worksheets, games, examples, and tests. There are many different ways to go about it, but the more they practice the more it is encoded into their brain. This makes them more able to use it in the future. That is the answer to why teacher assigns homework and do things over and over. We just want them to remember.

Numerators and Denominators

Numerators and Denominators are important to teaching fractions. Students are pretty good at understanding them once they are taught the difference. One of my students puts them in opposite ABC order. Another says "ND" like Notre Dame. I think it is cute the ways they understand them for themselves. It is important that students see the difference so they can use it to make equivalent equations and in adding and subtracting fractions.

Fractions: The Basics

It is important for every teacher to teach the basics about fractions. Just as basic counting in the foundation for all math things, fractions such as one-half and one-fourth are important in understanding fractions. By learning the basics students can later add, subtract, divide, and multiply fractions. Still today as a high school senior I use fractions in my Pre- Calculus class. One of the most important concepts to understand is equivalent fractions. That is a HUGE concept that is sometimes overlooked.

The Importance of Fractions

Fractions are used in many different dailey activities. Students are tested on this material often because of its importance. This artical helps to show the importance of fractions. It shows the importance that many overlook. It is used in food, travel, money, and many other things. Students and parents both need to understand why fractions are taught and reiterate there importance in front of the students.

Games

One thing every student loves is games. They are always a way of distracting students from realizing they are actually learning something. There are many different type of games, games they can make, online   games, hands on games the opportunties are endless!!! Kis enjoy them, parents enjoy them, and it gets the students to learn so teachers enjoy them

Fraction Pie

Fractions are a difficult subject that kids seem to NOT enjoy learning. They are not a difficult concept once students get the original idea. One way to make it interesting is to start by baking a pie and dividing it into halves, thirds, and sixths. Here is a recipe that gives some recipes for kid-friendly pies. These experiment helps kids to start with a comman interest and to have something to think about when asked similar questions in the future. Here is a video of a teacher using pie for a good cause.
